The FinnTech Story

Our Background

The challenges posed to print publishers by the emergence of online classifieds grow in parallel with the growth in Internet maturity. As a consequence the most Internet mature markets – like Scandinavia – have been dealing with this challenge since 1995 and considerable expertise and knowledge on how to develop the print business to step into a multi-media environment for classified business have been developed.

Taking the right evolutionary steps in the organisational development and developing the approriate and most efficient supporting technology for this fundamental change in classified business have proven both difficult and very expensive. Europe's classifieds publishers sought cooperation and alliances; the most notable one to emerge was the Adexalliance, an initiative closely linked to the emergence of FinnTech.

In 2002, FinnTech was established, based on the same idea of the benefits of knowledge sharing and economies of scale in technology development.

At this time, FINN.no had the technology and the experience to make it work, as well as knowledge and competence in implementing and operating an online classified system and the necessary adjustments and organisational changes required for successfully establishing and operating an online classifieds venture. This experience dates back to 1995-1996, and many of the pioneers are still with FinnTech.

During the following years, FinnTech expanded our customer portfolio to other European countries, and also delivered consulting services to a great number of European and other publishers.

Since its birth, FinnTech has increased its staff and turnover threefold, and continue to look ambitiously outwards. Our licensees now count 6 online classifieds providers in 5 countries, figures that will increase to 8 and 7 respectively this year - at least!
